L. Kirk Tolman photographs of Kirtland Temple, 1955.

Collection includes color photographs and negatives with images of the Kirtland Temple during its exterior remodeling in June 1955. All the original plaster had been removed from the temple. One picture includes L. Kirk Tolman with his parents. Some pictures show the original plaster applied to the temple walls by the early Saints in piles on the ground. Plaster fragments show three layers, including the outermost layer containing the original pulverized China-plaster made by the Saints. Much of this had oxidized, but the broken fragments still sparkled in sunlight.
